Untraced prior to its exhibition at Chris Beetles Ltd in 2001. It was offered for sale for £28,000 by John Spink in November 2005 and was acquired by an English private collector in 2014.

Comment

This is a sketch of Piles Mill near Allerford (fig.1), now a National Trust property.

Presumably the label bearing the inscription was once stuck to the drawing or else is a fragment of the original mount, now lost, which also included the rest of the inscription.
