Commissioned by 2nd Viscount Courtenay and sold by his son, 3rd Viscount Courtenay, at Christie’s on 15 February 1817 was a group of “Capital Loose Drawings by Towne”. Lot 3, View from the S.E. Window of the Belvedere, went for 18s. to Thompson. A drawing that probably served as Towne’s study for this work survives (FT134).
