Exhibition History
The Exhibition of the Royal Academy, Royal Academy of Arts, 1793, no. 214 as 'A view in Neptune's Grotto of the Sybil's Temple at Tivoli'

Possibly this has some relationship with Towne’s 1781 sketch of the same grotto (FT271), although the title given to the 1793 exhibit suggests that the grotto was used as a backdrop to a view of the Temple of the Sybil, above. The temple also features in two other works, FT261 and FT256, the latter dated 1789, though the grotto does not appear.
