Provenance
Untraced until 23 July 1947, when bought from Squire Gallery by Colnaghi (no.A14661), who sold it the following day for £200 to Gilbert Davis (1899–1983). According to museum records, Davis sold it back to Colnaghi in 1953, where it was purchased the following year by the present owner, the Toledo Museum of Art (Acc. 1954.39). It seems very likely that Squire acquired the drawing from a Merivale source, though no records exist to confirm this.
