Provenance
Commissioned by Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, Bt (1752–1794), on 28 December 1785 and descended in his family until sold by Sir Richard Thomas Dyke Acland, Bt (1906–1990), at Sotheby’s on 21 November 1968, lot 33, for £1400 to Agnew’s (no.8841), who sold it on 20 January 1969 for £2,500 to a collector, in whose collection it remained until 1997. It was on sale at Agnew’s in 1998 and again at W. S. Fine Art Ltd in 2009.
